Organizing a Space of Materials at the Intersection of Design and Programming

When you begin to explore the connections between design and programming, many materials quickly accumulate: diagrams, notes, code examples, screenshots, ideas. Without a certain structure this space becomes chaotic, and returning to previous thoughts becomes difficult.

Organization does not mean a rigid system. It is rather the creation of understandable places where different types of materials can be put. For example, a separate section for observations of form, a separate one for logical structures, a separate one for finished small examples. Such a division helps to quickly find what is needed and to see how ideas developed over time.

It is useful to have a place for “raw” ideas — those that are not yet shaped. And a separate place for more collected fragments. The transition from one to the other is itself part of the exploration. You see how scattered notes gradually come together into more complete structures.

In the materials of Mexaqori we show several possible ways of organization. This is not a single correct approach but a set of examples from which one can start. Someone prefers digital folders, someone physical notebooks, someone a combination of both. The main thing is that the system works for you and does not create unnecessary resistance.

It is important to periodically review one’s space. Some ideas lose relevance, others on the contrary become the basis for new directions. Cleaning and regrouping materials is also part of the process. It helps to maintain clarity and not to drown in what has been accumulated.

A well-organized space gives freedom. You can return to old observations, compare them with new ones, see the progress of your own understanding. This is especially valuable when the topic is complex and develops gradually. Without such a space it is easy to lose the thread and start everything from the beginning.

Organizing materials is a skill that develops together with the exploration. There is no need to build an ideal system at once. It is enough to start with a simple division and gradually refine it. This is how an environment is created in which it is convenient to think, experiment, and return to important ideas.
